A Labor of Love



My children and I have recently had several conversations talking about people that are mean and rude, people that make us angry, etc… How we are to treat them and how they are people who need love the most.   And then how hard it is to love them.

And then the question remains, why is it hard to love.  Is it possibly based in selfishness?  Selfishness that someone isn't treating us the way we think they should?  Selfishness because someone has more than we do?  Selfishness, selfishness, selfishness.  Can love abound in this?

I'd say it's hard to love because we are all naturally bent toward conditional love (love dependent upon others loving us). We also don't like to think of ourselves as sinful because it hurts our pride. Even as Christians, sometimes we are uncomfortable if someone points out a sin (though we oughtn't be! Sanctification is of paramount importance in the Christian life and God won't let us continue in sinful attitudes forever without chastisement).

We must remember that we break the Ten Commandments every day, if not in deed, in mind.
We must remember that when we break one it's easier to beak others soon after because we've given the old man a second glance.
I reckon God allows us to see these things, these sins, so that we are humbled and reminded that we are still in need of His Help and forgiveness.

So, people find it hard to love because we are not loving in our nature. Only God has a loving nature because he is not sinful.

When we find ourselves not loving, we must repent and ask the Lord to give us love, even if it's to love our enemy.

Christ is the best example of Love, as he gave Himself, His Holy Self, to us to save us from the just Wrath of the Father. There is no greater love than this and no love that even comes close to that.

Recommended Netflix Movies

Summer Herbal Tea

I made this up a couple years ago and it has def. been a summer favorite for me as well as for my kids.  If you can't drink black tea because of the caffeine (or other reasons), give this a try. Ingredients: 3 parts red raspberry leaf tea (not raspberry flavored) 1 part peppermint tea water Directions: 1. Steep tea as your normally would.  For me I use enough boiled water for a 2 quart pitcher.  I usually add in 6 Red Raspberry tea bags and 2 Peppermint Tea Bags.  If I have bulk, each tea bag itself usually contains about 1 teaspoon of loose tea.  I steep for 10 - 15 minutes, then take the tea bags out. 2. Add sweetener to taste - honey, stevia, etc... 3. Chill. It's that simple. What you're left with is a refreshing glass of tea for those hot summer days.  Below are some benefits of each of these teas.  Use caution when drinking peppermint tea while pregnant.  Spearmint is generally a better option.
