Valentine's Day

(Above - Chocolate testing I had with hubby 2 years ago)

It's just over 1 month away and I'm excitedly making plans for this year.  Now if you're one of those "Valentine's Day is one of those stupid Hallmark holidays we don't celebrate", or "I can pick any day of the year to love and celebrate my family", move on please.  I always have and always will love
Valentine's Day.

Growing up my mom always did something very special for us on Valentine's Day.  It was always fun seeing what she had planned.  It was especially fun when it fell on a school day and I'd anticipate all day long what she was doing.  She'd always make a fantastic meal and incorporate hearts into it any way she could.  We would also always get a special card from her and special treats.

Now that I have my own family, I try to follow the same theme as my mother.  It's always been a special time for our family too.  No matter what our budget, we've always been able to make the day very special.  There are so many fun things you can do as a family and as a couple.

Thank you mom for the legacy of Love!

My Adult Tonsillectomy Story

Post Surgery as soon as I arrived home. For anyone who really knows me, I have always been completely terrified of surgery.  So when I went to an ENT and he said I needed a tonsillectomy I was not very happy.  I found out in either January or February and I couldn't make my appointment till the end of June because that's when my husband could get off work to help out.  I wrote this so I could hopefully help someone going through the same thing.  Without further ado, here goes. Week Before Surgery: This is when I started purchasing everything I had seen online that might be helpful.  I also started setting up an area on the main floor where I could be inclined for sleeping and have everything at my finger tips.  At the bottom of this post I will have a list of items that I personally found helpful for my recovery.  I also have food allergies and tried to stay away from them as much as possible.  So my food options may seem different than ma...

Summer Herbal Tea

I made this up a couple years ago and it has def. been a summer favorite for me as well as for my kids.  If you can't drink black tea because of the caffeine (or other reasons), give this a try. Ingredients: 3 parts red raspberry leaf tea (not raspberry flavored) 1 part peppermint tea water Directions: 1. Steep tea as your normally would.  For me I use enough boiled water for a 2 quart pitcher.  I usually add in 6 Red Raspberry tea bags and 2 Peppermint Tea Bags.  If I have bulk, each tea bag itself usually contains about 1 teaspoon of loose tea.  I steep for 10 - 15 minutes, then take the tea bags out. 2. Add sweetener to taste - honey, stevia, etc... 3. Chill. It's that simple. What you're left with is a refreshing glass of tea for those hot summer days.  Below are some benefits of each of these teas.  Use caution when drinking peppermint tea while pregnant.  Spearmint is generally a better option. Red Raspberry Leaf Pepper...
