My Favorite Things 2011

Here goes.  Here is a list of some of my favorite things of 2011.  If I had the money, I'd totally buy 1 of each for all of you ;)  The list is short but these items rock!  Def. not a necessity but they've been nice to have.

Contigo Mugs - these are amazing!  They hold hot beverages for hours.

Heavenly Organics Chocolates - My favorite is the mint flavored.  This is just dark chocolate, honey and mint flavoring.  Now I can indulge from time to time.

Avalon Organics Biotin B Shampoo (Thickening) - I love, love, love this shampoo.  I get it at a discount on vitacost.com

IngenuiTEA - This has to be the best tea invention to date!  I use lots of bulk, loose, organic herbs for my tea.  This is the perfect way to brew it.  Super simple and easy clean-up.

Zevia Soda - My current favorite flavor is Ginger.  Mmmm!  It's nice to have a soda from time to time that does not contain any sugar/glycemic load.

Levi's - yes this is def. my brand of choice in jeans.  I got a gift card for Christmas from my brother Nathan and his wife Colette.  I was able to pick up a pair of Levi's with them.  Better fit than any jeans I've ever owned and that's saying a lot!

Keen H2 Sandals - my hubby got me a pair of Keen's and I must say, I LOVE them!  They are the most amazing sandals out there.  You can wear them in the water, on dry land and even throw them in the washer.

Red Raspberry Leaf Tea - this helps so much with female issues during that time.  Wouldn't want to be without it.  My daughter is also learning the joys of drinking it.

David Nouveaux Music - it just speaks to my soul.  I will daily send the children upstairs to rest/nap/do something quiet and put this one while I lay down and rest for a bit.  It's so calm and restful to this sometimes weary soul.

Soaker Hose - This was wonderful for our garden this year.  This gave me time to do other things outdoors while the garden was being gently watered.  Slow, gentle watering is key to good gardening.  I'm anxious to see how the hose is doing this spring.  I saw I could keep it outdoors as long as it wasn't hooked up to the water spout and was drained.  That will be a post for another time.

My Adult Tonsillectomy Story

Post Surgery as soon as I arrived home. For anyone who really knows me, I have always been completely terrified of surgery.  So when I went to an ENT and he said I needed a tonsillectomy I was not very happy.  I found out in either January or February and I couldn't make my appointment till the end of June because that's when my husband could get off work to help out.  I wrote this so I could hopefully help someone going through the same thing.  Without further ado, here goes. Week Before Surgery: This is when I started purchasing everything I had seen online that might be helpful.  I also started setting up an area on the main floor where I could be inclined for sleeping and have everything at my finger tips.  At the bottom of this post I will have a list of items that I personally found helpful for my recovery.  I also have food allergies and tried to stay away from them as much as possible.  So my food options may seem different than ma...

Gardening tips on a budget

Matt planting our $5 tree. It's 3 years old now and is gorgeous!!! A variety of basil panted in a container. Our lovely calendula. This is a family favorite grown from seed. Cherry tomatoes. Squash Another variety of basil. That was just a bit of what I grew a couple years ago. Bean plant. Lovely lavender! Many times I've wanted to plant a massive garden or have several plants I could simply not afford. Not just that but other things such as mulch, weed blankets and more. I hope you find the tips below as helpful as we have. Please feel free to add your own gardening tips. 1. Purchase trees at the end of the season. We've gotten a few trees for $5 and $10 at the end of the season. We planted them and they've done just fine! Talk about a huge savings! You can also do this with bulbs and other plants. :) 2. Use newspaper for weed barrier protection instead of the weed blankets. You'll want to do this fairly thick; anywhere from 5...
