Friends, the year 2020 has definitely looked different that’s for sure. It’s been interesting talking to my other friends with chronic illnesses and getting their perspective. For me this is what has changed.
Positives:
There have been more online freebies as far as events than I have ever seen. This has been great for the person with chronic illness and we all hope some of these things continue. Things such as online church, zoo, ballets, concerts, etc.
No more trying to fake feeling good when I had to go out because I’m not getting out.
So many more places are doing online pick up instead of just Walmart and Kroger. I needed those services before coronavirus hit the United States. Now having so many more options; it’s been a wonderful!!
People finally don’t guilt trip me into going to events and family functions because they know I’m high risk. Before I felt like I had to explain away everything if I didn’t feel good enough to go somewhere.
I get to stay in my comfy clothes that don’t cause any pain.
I get to see my kids more since the youngest three are home with me.
Negatives:
I don’t get to go out around other people the rare times I’m feeling well.
I don’t get to go to church in person every Sunday.
I can’t bring in groceries, books from the library, etc without either sanitizing them first or quarantining them. That’s a lot of extra energy for a spoonie.
I can’t go to a sit down restaurant with a friend for coffee.
I’m sure I could add to both lists but I’m on the tail end of a migraine and posting this has wore me out. When this is all over, please don’t forget about those with chronic illnesses and those shut in that can’t make it out for whatever reason. Please keep all these wonderful shopping pick ups, online freebies, online church, etc.
Last but not least, make use of these wonderful things we have at our fingertips such as zoom, Marco Polo, etc. Let’s do what we can to stay in touch with one another. Pick up the phone, start a zoom meeting. Stay connected.
