Helping the Homeless

How many times have you driven down the road only to see someone holding a sign that says something along the lines of, "Homeless, Can You Help?  God Bless".  We've seen many signs and at times have helped in either the form of cash or purchasing food to give them.  Recently on Pinterest, I saw a bag that was full of items for the homeless.  Immediately, I fell in love with this idea.  I could help someone and not even have to question giving them cash because of possible alcohol or cigarette purchase (yes this has happened to me before).  We can have these bags ready to go and in the car any time the occasion may arise.  My hope is that whoever is in the car with me can get out, pray with the person and give them something that might make their life the slightest bit easier for a short time.  In the past, I have kept from helping others because I didn't see that it'd make that much difference.  I couldn't help as much as I wanted to so I did nothing.  Well, we've been doing something lately...not as much as I'd like/hope to, but we're doing something.  This is what we included in our bag.  Before it goes out, we're going to purchase a nice pair of warm socks.

Bag Items:
comb
hand sanitizer
toothbrush
toothpaste
matches
raisins
peanuts
peanut butter crackers
wash cloth
soap
lip balm
electrolyte drink packets
trash bag
first aid kit
gallon bag to put it all in

The total approximate price for all the above items minus the socks is just under $10.  We purchased many of these items at the Dollar Tree.

I think this is a really stellar idea!
One idea to include might be the phone number or address of a church/organization that has a program to help the homeless. That way they can continue to get the help they need after the fact.

My Adult Tonsillectomy Story

Post Surgery as soon as I arrived home. For anyone who really knows me, I have always been completely terrified of surgery.  So when I went to an ENT and he said I needed a tonsillectomy I was not very happy.  I found out in either January or February and I couldn't make my appointment till the end of June because that's when my husband could get off work to help out.  I wrote this so I could hopefully help someone going through the same thing.  Without further ado, here goes. Week Before Surgery: This is when I started purchasing everything I had seen online that might be helpful.  I also started setting up an area on the main floor where I could be inclined for sleeping and have everything at my finger tips.  At the bottom of this post I will have a list of items that I personally found helpful for my recovery.  I also have food allergies and tried to stay away from them as much as possible.  So my food options may seem different than ma...

Summer Herbal Tea

I made this up a couple years ago and it has def. been a summer favorite for me as well as for my kids.  If you can't drink black tea because of the caffeine (or other reasons), give this a try. Ingredients: 3 parts red raspberry leaf tea (not raspberry flavored) 1 part peppermint tea water Directions: 1. Steep tea as your normally would.  For me I use enough boiled water for a 2 quart pitcher.  I usually add in 6 Red Raspberry tea bags and 2 Peppermint Tea Bags.  If I have bulk, each tea bag itself usually contains about 1 teaspoon of loose tea.  I steep for 10 - 15 minutes, then take the tea bags out. 2. Add sweetener to taste - honey, stevia, etc... 3. Chill. It's that simple. What you're left with is a refreshing glass of tea for those hot summer days.  Below are some benefits of each of these teas.  Use caution when drinking peppermint tea while pregnant.  Spearmint is generally a better option. Red Raspberry Leaf Pepper...
