Homemade Vapor Type Rub - Natural Style ;)

There's a nasty cold going around with a cough that likes to linger. I didn't have any natural chest rub on hand so I thought I'd make some. Thank the Lord, I had everything but the eucalyptus essential oil on hand. I saw several recipes online that looked neat. I also wanted to make sure that whatever I made would be helpful for the kids and baby as well. I ended up meshing a couple recipes together (story of my life) and here's what I came up with. The original recipe called for 30 drops eucalyptus eo but none of the other essential oils. Below is the recipe I used.

Ingredients:
1 tablespoon beeswax
5 tablespoons coconut oil
20 drops eucalyptus essential oil
6 drops lavender essential oil
3 drops tea tree oil

Directions:
1. Using a double boiler (or I used a glass bowl in a boiling pot of water), melt the coconut oil and beeswax. Stir well.
2. After melted well till there are no more little pieces of beeswax, let the mixture sit a bit till it starts to solidify. Mix well to get clumps out and add eo's at this point.
3. Stir well and put into a jar with a tight fitting lid.

When using coconut oil, try to use raw, unrefined. For the beeswax, try making sure to purchase it from local honey suppliers. We got ours from Turtlebee Farms.

My Adult Tonsillectomy Story

Post Surgery as soon as I arrived home. For anyone who really knows me, I have always been completely terrified of surgery.  So when I went to an ENT and he said I needed a tonsillectomy I was not very happy.  I found out in either January or February and I couldn't make my appointment till the end of June because that's when my husband could get off work to help out.  I wrote this so I could hopefully help someone going through the same thing.  Without further ado, here goes. Week Before Surgery: This is when I started purchasing everything I had seen online that might be helpful.  I also started setting up an area on the main floor where I could be inclined for sleeping and have everything at my finger tips.  At the bottom of this post I will have a list of items that I personally found helpful for my recovery.  I also have food allergies and tried to stay away from them as much as possible.  So my food options may seem different than ma...

2020 From A Chronic Illness Warrior

Friends, the year 2020 has definitely looked different that’s for sure.  It’s been interesting talking to my other friends with chronic illnesses and getting their perspective.  For me this is what has changed.   Positives: There have been more online freebies as far as events than I have ever seen. This has been great for the person with chronic illness and we all hope some of these things continue.  Things such as online church, zoo, ballets, concerts, etc.   No more trying to fake feeling good when I had to go out because I’m not getting out.   So many more places are doing online pick up instead of just Walmart and Kroger. I needed those services before coronavirus hit the United States. Now having so many more options; it’s been a wonderful!! People finally don’t guilt trip me into going to events and family functions because they know I’m high risk. Before I felt like I had to explain away everything if I didn’t feel good enough to go somewhere. ...

Christmas Gift Planning Year Round

Picture borrowed from http://moneysavingmom.com/2011/09/get-a-jump-start-on-holiday-shopping.html/christmas-presents I love to plan my Christmas gifts starting in January.  This helps me not only save money but save sanity.  I save money because I have all year to look for those specific items and it saves my sanity because my family is not stressed about what to get someone.  We're prepared. Here's a few steps that have helped me. 1. First decide if you want to make all/some of your gifts.  If you want to make them, try to find neat and unique ideas online.  I LOVE pinterest.com for getting great ideas. 2. Is there someone in your family that has a lot of stuff?  For those people I get the same thing every year.  For our grandparents we do pictures in some form and homemade goodies.  For my mom and dad, I always get them a gift certificate to a Bed and Breakfast and add in something small for each one. 3. Make a list of everyone...
